The X Factor finalists, Jahmene and James Arthur on the covers of their official X Factor “My Story” books. Who won? Scroll down!
It was a tough call, tonight, during the 2012 X Factor final, between finalists, Jahmene Douglas, and James Arthur. The only thing certain was that last-judge-standing, former American X Factor judge of one series, and ex-Pussycat Doll, Nicole Sherzinger, was certainly the winning lady of the night, being both Jahmene and James Arthur’s (and the competition’s) leading judge.
Following a lengthy final X Factor show, featuring appearances from most of this year’s contestants — controversial Chris Moloney was absent due to a “sore throat” saying, on Twitter, that his “doctor signed [him] off” — after a tense few hours, we finally got confirmation of the 2012 X Factor Winner — James Arthur.

The Stats
According to Xtra Factor co-host, Caroline Flack, James Arthur won tonight’s X Factor final with 54% of the total vote, with Jahmene in second place having tallied 46% of the vote.
However, the official X Factor statement in relation to the voting statistics does differ slightly from this number, with them putting the numbers as:
“Week 10 Freeze
- James Arthur 51.7%
- Jahmene Douglas 31.5%
- Christopher Maloney 16.8%
Week 10 Final
- James Arthur 53.7%
- Jahmene Douglas 38.9%
- Christopher Maloney (carried over from freeze) 7.4%”
As this week’s final, taking place on week 10 of the live shows, featured 3 finalists initially — Jahmene Douglas, James Arthur, and Christopher Maloney — the “Week 10 Freeze” refers to Saturday night, 8 December, and the statistics in relation to that first night of this weekend’s 2-day final, featuring 3 contestants. However, the “Week 10 Final” places James Arthur as having 53.7% of the vote, Jahmene Douglas as receiving 38.9% of the vote, and Christopher Maloney (who was knocked out of the competition on Saturday night, as having “(carried over from freeze) 7.4%” percent. This differs slightly to what Xtra Factor host, Caroline Flack, said in relation to the final tally — i.e. that instead of receiving 46% of the vote, that Jahmene, in fact, received 38.9% (rounded up: 39%), and that James Arthur’s final percentage is 53.7 (but, again, rounded up: 54%). If the winner had received 54%, the runner up, assumedly, would have received 46%. However, even if Chris Moloney’s voting line was closed, and his tally was frozen, this doesn’t exactly explain why he is still credited as having 7.4% of the final, final vote. So, on a technical level, according to ITV, Jahmene got, effectively, 39% of the public vote, with winning singer, James Arthur, coming out on top, with a 54% winning vote.
